Lesson Lockdown: How To Preserve Your Nail Art Foil Mani's
Yo lacqueristas,
Today I decided to do a how to post on how to keep your foil mani's looking sparkling and unwrinkled and lasting more than a millisecond. I did think this was common knowledge, but somewhere along the way I realized it isn't given how many questions I had gotten when I posted my scattered foil nails. Once I understood there were really no blog posts or videos out there to show people how to keep your foils looking fantastic I realized I should probably write a post and do a video review. So here we are! I'm going to run through the various techniques below and I'm sure there is one out there for everyone. PS let me know if I missed a method that you know about and leave comments, suggestions, and feedback below especially if you found this helpful! Now let's get started!

Lesson Lockdown: How To Create Double Processed/Double Processing Nail Art!
Hey stamp champs,
Today I'm going to show you a new technique I discovered through a nail friend and a true creative powerhouse Joey Helland. Regardless of what she says this lady is truly amazing! Anyone who can come up with these techniques, raise two children, act as a wife, and hold down a job gets all my respect and admiration in the world. I'd be napping lol! Anyhoo she created this technique and named it Double Processing which is an entirely accurate description. Essentially is a stamp that you process twice! Eh? Yeah I know when she first tried to describe this technique to me even with pictures I was like um....Yup total confusion and dismay. I kept looking at her pictures expecting an epiphany and when that didn't happen I just decided to try practicing and see if I could produce the results by trial. Luckily I was able to and discovered that this technique is pretty awesome once you have the basics that is! So I decided to create a little video tutorial and a verbal breakdown a alongside the process so let's go!

Lesson Lockdown: How To Create Watermarble Nail Art Like A Pro!

Welcome back to the classroom! This post is for a lovely lady Cheryl who just wants to watermarble her little heart out, and I want to help her achieve her goal. Ok so here's the deal - many many ladies hate watermarble nail art. They groan, cry, and throw up their hands in defeat when they even see the word. In fact you could say in the 31 day nail art challenge the watermarble has driven some women to the depths of despair. Well I say despair no longer because it really isn't that bad. In fact with the right polishes and the right attitude I'd say it's downright FUN! And as you know recently I have been doing more and more watermarbles because like a language the skills of successfully creating watermarbles gets rusty if you don't use them regularly. So here we go....

Welcome to the classroom stamparistas,
This is the start of my Beginner's Series on Nail Art Stamping. It's actually been a long time coming. In fact this is draft 2, the first was deleted by blogger sigh, but I've been slowly and carefully crafting what will be a 3 part series to help those that are just beginning to stamp or for those who what a good start point before making purchases. This series will act as a guide to those new to stamping and a resource for pros or vested stampers to point out in aiding others. I figure as I've been at this stamping thing for about 8 years now I've accumulated lots of tips and tricks that will hopefully help you become successful at the craft of stamping, and assist in getting over that hump of frustration that one can experience when starting out. Part 1 is all about where to begin when you first start stamping. Don't forget I also have up a Stamping 101 page with some resources that you can check out as well. Now let's get started.....

Lesson Lockdown: What Is A Marshmallow (Squishy/Sticky) Stamper?
Hey stamp champs,
I have seen this question about a bagillion times now. In fact I've seen it so much I feel like my eyes almost melt when I see it. In addition, I have seen so much misinformation and heard so many explanations that are incorrect that I felt if I didn't post this soon I wouldn't be able to remain sane. So here we are talking about marshmallow stampers. This post has been long delayed because of issues with my iMovie software, but one reason I was determined to put this up because I have a pertinent review of the Messy Mansion Pro Set coming up and I wanted to be clear on exactly what this stamper is according to Lacquer Lockdown. It's also worth mentioning that in discussions with Julia McGowan and Johanne of FabUrNails we all have the same consensus about what this terminology denotes. And while you may have heard a lot about various kinds of stampers the one that has become incredibly popular and sought after is the marshmallow stamper. So in short the aim of this post is to fully explain what that terminology means, and to review a variety of marshmallow stampers as well as the pros and cons of owning one. Lesson Lockdown: How To Clean Your Stained Nails
Polished Prisoners,
Yup today your back to lockdown status because aw lawd ain't nothing worse than taking off an amazing richly pigmented polish that rocked your world and seeing yes, gasp, stained nail beds! Honestly, I never understood why women would complain about this until it happened to me. To be fair I scrub my hands all day everyday as part of my regular gig IRL. I'm used to my nails being no-man's land in terms of bacteria and germs and gloves are an absolute. So when I took off my gorgeous holo polishes from Love Angeline and looked down at my nails and saw the following I wanted to scream!
I tried using a little more acetone than usual. Nope. I tried a pseudo-foil method. Nope. Then I finally realized if I wanted these stains gone I was going to have to put my background in biochemisty to work. I rummaged around the house looking for baking soda and lemon juice and then finally scrounged up some hydrogen peroxide. I was gonna bust these stains' butts lol figuratively of course!
The Science
So here's the deal really this is all about mixing a powerful oxidant (hydrogen peroxide) with a strong acid (lemon juice aka citric acid) and a bad ass base (baking soda aka sodium bicarb). Mix 1 part lemon juice with 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 2 parts baking soda to create a paste. If you don't have lemon juice but do have a lemon go ahead and squeeze away or you can place lemon wedges directly on your nails, but it will take way longer to whiten than it would if you just did this mixture.
You can use a nail brush or a tooth brush to scrub at your nails to expedite the process of stain removal especially if your like me and are, one, totally skivved out by anything that remotely approaches a stain on your nail and, two, you want to move onto whatever your next manicure is without the limitation of stained nail beds. One PSA though if you have any open wounds on your fingers or around your cuticles this will sting! "Mommy it burns, it burns!" It's an antibacterial mixture though so it won't harm you but you've been warned ;) And when you are done you should get this!
So there we have it. I thought this really might be useful to some ladies out there struggling with this issue. I really and truly hate stains on my nails, but I also have no real reference for the whitening solutions that you can go out and buy. Plus why would I when I know I can create the same thing at home for basically free since I have these ingredients lying around my house on the regular? I actually use baking soda to wash my hair.
