Why have I waited so long to use this plate?!?! I'm kicking myself because when I saw these images I knew I wanted to use them ASAP.  Unfortunately when I ordered these plates from Vivid Lacquer the pre-order manufacturing was plagued by problems which meant I didn't get my plates for a significant period of time.  By then the lust had died down a bit in my soul at least until I saw a really cool manicure done by Mariane Faliguski.  When I saw that I went, pardon my french, ape-shit.  Lol. I wanted to recreate this look so badly I could barely contain myself.  I went hunting around my polish stash until I found just the right colors and the rest as they say is history...

MoYou London 31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 12 OOTD

Who thought of OOTD as a challenge? Ugh I am seriously not one to complain about my work attire because I love what I wear everyday on the other hand nothing is inspirational about scrubs.  I mean nothing.  It's like wearing pajamas to work everyday comfy, but certainly not fashionable.  I was a little at a loss unfortunately then I decided to take my two most frequently alternating scrub colors and create a gradient and a nautical theme to match my gym bag that gets carried to work.  Lol. What a mess but whatever works right?

One thing I have to say about this challenge is that my Pro plates are getting a workout.  Of all the plates halfway through this collection I would say the Pro are the most versatile hands down offering you lots of combos to create a very of nail art.   This came out like gangbusters! In short it ended up being a lot cuter than I thought it would given all my dismay and hemming and hawing about how my daily outfits are nothing to write home about lol.  What I got were some awesome #nautical #nailart!

So what do you think? Not bad for a set of scrubs and a gym bag right? I got style I got class ;) ;)  Note to shelf must use more of my Butter London polishes.  Isn't Scallywag divine!!!  Thanks so much for reading and see you next post...

MoYou London 31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 11 Cupcakes

Hey lacquer ladies,

I love a good cupcake!  One might in fact say I'm a cupcake snob after all to score major points iwth me the cake has to be as good as the frosting and vice versa.  This is tougher than it seems for a lot of cupcake makers, and over time I have ultimately realized that French style cupcakes are my favorite.  Ahem in any case with so much interest in cupcakes clearly I was excited and hungry lol for Day 11 and its theme of Cupcakes.

When I poured through my plates for this challenge I realized that I had a LOT of images with cupcakes so for me it wasn't even about finding a plate that had one or two it was about pulling together the cupcakes in a way that added definitive whimsy and sweetness that I think is the appeal of the cupcake anyway.  I decided to also stick with pastels for this one because in my mind cupcakes always seem to head in that direction - doily's, pastels, and little squealing girls.  Lol..seriously you know what I mean.  Recently I've realized that I'm starting to pile up a lot of technique again in my mani's. For instance this mani features gradients, double stamping, and decal method.  I think I will scale back for some of the more difficult challenges i.e. ones that I have trouble creating the concept to make my life easier ;)



What do you think? This was another mani that I was ultimately very happy with.  Even though I didn't plan it it felt like all the elements that remind me of cupcakes came together perfectly in this mani.  So this is day 11 I'm about halfway through the challenge now with real time being day 15. It's definitely feeling a bit more natural, but still draining.  I think the worst part is that I'm getting a bit of burnout.  I wasn't very happy with that TV challenge and in between I decided to do something entirely unrelated to MoYou and it really made all the difference! Bestie Twin Nails - Blasian Color Nation!

Okay ladies long time no post again!

Today I have a special post!  Did you know that I'm very good friends with the lovely Vicky A of Boombastic Nails?  In fact I named her blog back in the days when she was just thinking about blogging.  I may have goaded her into it because she had some of the best swatches and pictures I've ever seen how could she NOT blog!!! Lol I sound insane but she's talented and she also happens to be my nail polish/nail art bestie for today's post. 

As you know I love my Instagram and there are always tons of tags running around over there one of which is the theme - bestie twin nails.  In short you and your nail art buddy pic an idea and colors and without showing the other create some nail art.  Vicky chose the theme - using tape in nail art and then I semi chose the colors - rainbow (but then we decided on full color spectrum).  So where does the "blasian" part come from? Lol - I'm African American/Black and Vicki is Chinese.  So there we are anyway without futher ado some bestie nail art...

Pretty cool right?  Even though neither of us knew which exact colors we were using it turned out so similarly!  Lol I guess we are besties after all.  Vicky's came out so perfectly I feel a little embarrassed to even put my art up next to hers *waaahhh* She is so talented!  You can see more details of her art on Boombastic Nails.

Now I know you are thinking where did YOU use tape in your mani??  Well I did.  I put down one water marble (the black and white) and then taped off sections of it and water marbled on top of the taped off sections creating a double water marble!  Crazy cool right.  I used over 30 polishes to create this manicure, and at least 4-5 different colors and 3-4 brands for each "color" of the the spectrum.! My my how overly ambitious!  Anyway I hope you enjoyed this happy un-Easter edition of Lacquer Lockdown.  May candy bunnies rain from your skies and happy Easter to those of you who celebrate it!

Sinful Colors Sugar Rush Collection Watermarble

Hey lovely ladies,

Long time no polish!  Things have been busy and tight and so I haven't had a lot of time for posting even though I have created lots of mani's between here and there in the January deadzone so I have lots to share.  If you are ever feeling like you are craving what I'm creating feel free to check me out on Instagram as I tend to post there with updates almost daily-ish.  I'm just going to hop right into it today!  The Sinful Colors Sugar Rush Collection released late last week and I snatched them up instantly.  While they are normally $1.99 These polishes are on sale this week for $1 so find your nearest Walgreens and scoop them up.  The collection of eight yummy polishes in a perfect for spring pastel range, and because I am a glutton for all things spring I decided to take them all and create some water marble magic!

Marble: Sinful Colors Cotton Candy, Unicorn, Candy Coated, Sugar Rush, Sweet Nothing, Orange Creme, Sugar N Spice, and Sweet Tooth

I put down Confetti Wedding White and the base and then created the marble over top so that the colors came out a little bit more vibrantly.  If you follow me on instagram you might have seen my post as I was starting the process. I really love how this came out!  Today I was told it looked like I had dipped my hands in Creamsicles :)  I take that as a huge compliment as I am a big fan of Creamsicles the sugar free kind in the summer!

Ultimately I think this collection is worth getting!  It's cheap, the quality of the polishes are excellent,  the colors are effortless, and while there are a few reformulations mainly Unicorn the polishes glide on with ease so its totally worth picking up the newer formulas.  The standouts here IMO are Orange Cream and Candy Coated both are really pretty colors and unique to things I've been seeing so far for the upcoming season.  Anyoo thanks for reading and I'll see you next post I promise it won't be long! One of my favorite instagramers Storms and Stars was having a little contest with the theme storms and stars ;)  Initially, I had so many ideas but I loved the concept of starry showers and lightening the most and decided to go with that theme.  This one was actually another mani that was quite a bit of work but for several reasons including base complexity, stamp placement, and overall effect.  I've been told now for the umteenth time that I'm OCD and today I'd finally have to agree.  I will admit I couldn't settle well on this one and it took me a while to figure out what I wanted, but I love the final picture.

What do you ladies think?  One thing that bugged me is that I realized I don't have any plates with an image of the sun except for my BM01 plate and I have a lot of plates!  I would think the sun would be a common kind of image to put on a plate but for some reason it's not prevalent at least not in my collection.  Maybe I should buy more plates ;) ;)  Lol trust me when I say that's not it at all!  I already have too many and more coming.  I need to finish my stamping catalog one of these days and get that page up so you all can check it out.  In any event thank you so much for reading stay tuned for more fun!  Toodles...

Mwhahaha another Halloween installment here!  It's been a bit dead these days I apologize for it its a combination of wi-fi loss, my own icky cold, and now a hurricane (Sandy) hitting DC.  Seriously it's crazy! So let's talk about a few things here - CrowsToes Halloween collection is seriously giving me chills!  HHNF - first of all did any of you see Rosanne in She-Devil that late 80's movie?  Oh lawd I think about it every time I see devils.  So funny!  HHNF is so perfect and just the right combo of purple and orange-red yumminess for this mani.  I also have to say thank you to Lauri who sent them to me as a ROAK.  Seriously YOU rock lady!  Kindness has always been my weak point and this lady has continued to maintain her kindness and grace even when her family has been going through such difficult times.  She is a treasure and her polishes make me drool!  My friends in the blog-o-sphere can attest to that! But hey when you're working it you're working it and Lauri is always fierce!

Sephora's Pantone Universe 2012 - I've had these for a while and I have no idea why I never used them they've just been hanging out.  Opaque in three coats for the creme and drying to a near squishy like jelly finish. What's not to love?  I'm not sure of the availability of these anymore but the determined lacquerista should be able to make it happen if she wants them.

So thoughts, comments, mindless adoration? Lol kidding!  I'm having fun with these Halloween mani's.  I wish I had been able to do more curse the luck!  Oh well there is always next year ;)  Let me also take this time to say thank you thank you thank you to everyone who voted for me in the Bundle Monster Contest!!!  I didn't make it into the top 15 but it was really fun creating the look.  Also for those that didn't know it I won that inaugural entry for Leah Anne's new website and blog LLarrowe! Skulls and Crossbones Oh My...On Sundays I Stamp!

Omo you thought I stopped stamping on Sundays huh?  Well truth be told sometimes AIS was hard to do when I had to get my Time Warp challenges up, but the warp has ended and here I am reunited and it feels so good ;)  But I will say this now yesterday's mani made me want to go very simple today in terms of stamping.  The theme for this weeks challenge was to do an invasion of...whatever our hearts desired.   I chose skulls and crossbones because I wanted to stay on theme for Halloween and because I have lots of plates with skulls and crossbones.  So let's get onto the art yes?

That mani-louge is something else right?  So many polishes and plates and tiny detail work.  I can't remember the last time or if I have ever done such a complicated mani before.  Every single nail was thought out and thought out again.  I wanted to create something pretty and a little spooky and of course extremely unique.  I couldn't even figure out the colorway for this mani which I usually always do before I start.  I just made it up as I went along which I have to say at least to me is so much harder to do.

Notice how I "snuck" some bling into this jazz hehe!

Halloween 2012: Crawling Marbles...

You don't even want to know how excited I am for the month of October around these parts! I am so friggin' excited!!!  I want to try and post every day and get up some awesome tutorials for my Youtube for Halloween.  I have so many great ideas I can't wait to share plus the electricity is back on and I think the blogger app worked out fairly well so I've got my bases covered.  Its come to my attention that I've never done a "full" water marble mani round these parts.  Mostly I've done them as accents or as part of a trigger style mani.  So to kick off the Halloween felicitations today I'm showing you a full neon glowing creepy crawly mani.  Let's get onto the art shall we?

So let's talk about Totally 80's shall we? This polish is almost impossible to photograph! I had to color adjust like mad to get to the true color on screen.  It is a screaming highlighter yellow/green that hurts my eyes to look at directly in the sunlight.  Now that is saying something huh? Three coats are shown here over one thin coat of Essie's Marshmallow, and like all neons this one is a bit on the thicker side but has nice self-leveling. I fully expect to use this one again this month it's such a great base color!

LDTTWC Day 4: Lights, Camera, Action

My guess is based on the title of this post and that little snippet of a classic Disney movie you can see where I'm heading yes?  Welcome to Day 4 of the Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge devoted to all things nostalgic!  And what could possibly be as nostalgic and as quintessential to my days of youth as Disney movies?  Well excepting She-ra, Playstation, and R.L. Stine not much!  My god how I have dreamed and dreamed and fantasized about that glass slipper, the clandestine dance in the garden by the fountain, and the final strike of the clock at midnight.  As the glimmering shoe was left behind my soul filled with anguish.  "Not the glass slipper!", is what I always thought.  Cinderella was irresponsible! A crowbar couldn't have pried those things off my feet!!!  Note how I never mention the castle, the mice, the fairy godmother, or prince charming himself? That's because they were all incidentals.  I wanted those freaking shoes! Alright enough ranting and onto the art...

These really need to be seen in natural like to show the holographic sparkle of INM Northern Lights.  I'll try and update tomorrow with a few more pics when the sun is up!

Inspiration for these nails was of course the clock with it's hands at midnight, the glittering and awe inspiring pumpkin-turned-coach, and the swirls of magic dancing about Cinderella as she received her glass slippers oh yeah and the rest but I only care about the slippers.  Initially I did try to create the glass slippers on my nails but it looked crazy no matter which why I did it.  A glass slipper only becomes a shoe when it is bestowed upon the princesses foot.  Until then it's just a pretty piece of clear glass yes?  The color of Essie's Blue Rhapsody to me was a perfect allusion to Miss.  Rella's dress.

So here we are having taken another trip down the twisty and insane path that is my nostalgia.  Oh and just in case you didn't know it Disney is celebrating there Blue Ray release of Cinderella this year in an all out fashion including, gasp, twenty pair of limited edition Christian Louboutin swarovski encrusted butterfly adorned shoes inspired by the glass slipper themselves.  And I will leave you with this picture to drool away over!

Right now I'm cursing my fate that I'm neither Dita Von Tease or Mariah Carey who were already slotted to own one of the twenty coveted pair.  Alas to be a commoner and poor just like Cinderella.  Lol!

Abstract Shades of Blue...On Sundays I Stamp!

Time for another Adventures in Stamping post! I'm just gonna jump right in - the theme for this week was using your favorite new stamp.  Saaaayyyy what?  Lol - yeah that's a tiny problem for me because I've gotten a lot of new plates recently including my Red Angel plates which arrived this week (stay tuned for the QC post).  So I decided to take these out for a spin this time around. I also had to do a big chop to my nails since I snapped the middle one on the way out the door yesterday - boo! Alas they will regrow and in the meantime I can use my smaller image plates without a need for double stamping which kinda rules.

I think this is so cute and easy!

I started with Sinful Colors Cinderella as the base color.  Cinderella is a beautiful blue sheer polish filled with bits of iridescent pinkish red and gold microglitter.  By itself it's a gorgeous polish, but it also worked well as a backdrop for my abstract manicure.  FYI, in case you didn't know Sinful Colors will be on sale for .99c at Walgreens til 7/28 so take advantage and pick up some lovelies on the cheap!

 I used plate RA120 and stamped using Essie Blue Rhapsody and Color Club Cold Metal. 

 This type of stamping where you are sectioning out colors within a single stamp is my favorite kind of nail art.  It requires a bit of attention, but when executed correctly has cool payoff. 

Omo - a little too much glare here, but I was trying to capture all the shimmer fro the 3 different polishes.

 The look ends up very simple the overall effect is complex because of the "layering" within the stamp along with the use of a metallic and foil nail polish on a cream base. I like to think of it as a "texturized" mani.

You can see all the pretty pink sparkle from Cinderella rising underneath the stamp - cool beans!

Easy Gradient Nail Art

What's up lacquerheads,

I'm really on a bright is right kick which is a constant for me as soon as it's spring and summer.  I want to wear neons, glitters, eye-popping patterns, and shocking hues! With that in mind I have created a sponging nail layering that I'd like to share with you.  I simply took a cosmetic sponge and started layering after applying my base color  -  OPI Who The Shrek Are You? I overlayed it with Color Club Fly With Me and finally topped by Sinful Colors Green Ocean. Talk about a green dream come true - yum!  The hints of blue fire in Green Ocean is almost edible in it's deliciousness - yes edible.  For the pink I wanted to have a fun and bright contrast so I layered Claire's Paradise underneath Orly Emberstone and topped it with KleanColor Aurora at the very edge. I have to say this is my first time using a KleanColor polish and I was fairly impressed by the formulation on this one.  It glided on with no fuss surprisingly for a dense flakie and only required one swipe to become apparent.  I might have to pick up more of these polishes in the future.

The aurora polish actually had little tiny stars in it which did not show up well and left me rather annoyed because they were difficult to place.

I think this was pretty but somehow it lost it's fizzle for me though I'm not sure why though I suspect it's because I felt it was somehow incomplete without any nail art lol.  In any case I just adore that flakie flash of blue in the SC Green Ocean.  Do you ladies have any flakies or brights that you can't live without this season?

Local Sales + Mini Drug Store Haul

I did a little hunting and resulted in no success for the items that I wanted.  I was seeking the Wet n' Wild Fantasy Makers polishes in dark purple and black glitter, but alas after visiting four different stores I ran out of both patience and time.  Instead I found some other polishes and products on sale and some I just wanted to check out.  If you have a CVS near you I suggest stopping by since they have the Sally Hansen polishes BOGO 50% off as well as the decal nail strips for the same deal.  Rite Aid has the new Sinful Color stripers for $1.99 as well as the new Jessie's Girl Julie G. collection.  I was actually pretty disappointed in this collection though.  I love Julie G and I'm a subber to her YT channel but these colors, at least for me, were a far cry from inventive or novel (ouch).  That said the colors are beautiful and while they may not be the newest shades around they are definitely worth checking out!  I only ended up picking out one since I can't resist melon colored polishes.  I also snuck in a recently arrived eBay OPI purchase since it came the same day.
