Halloween 2013: Spiderwebs and Cherons feat Vivid Lacquer Image Plates

Happy Friday fellow lacqueristas,

Today I've got some uber cute nails to show you!  I decided to try out a few of my newer Vivid Lacquer stamping plates, and let me say I'm loving everything about them!  I wanted to try and create some fun nail art that was pretty and Halloween themed without heading down the pathway of gore.  Lol that's not to say I won't be heading down that pathway ever but I am more of a glamourous and pretty type. That had me reaching for my Vivid Lacquer plates which feature just enough fiendishness combined with pretty to satisfy my tastes.

I'm not sure if you knew but Anni recently created a Autumn/Halloween themed plate.  What I love the most about it are two images in particular!  One is a huge spiderweb.  It could easily stretch across all 4 of my digits if I stamped it serially.  The other is a graveyard image that has yet to be used but it will be shortly.   This is a cute and versatile plate that has the potential to create about 5-10 or more Halloween mani's if you got creative.   I'm not sure if it's currently available, but you can get it here.

So what do you think? I haven't done a trigger finger mani in a long time so it's funny that when I once again pick it up it's with Essie yet again.  Lol what can I say I am a die-hard Essie girl!  In any case I am so in love with how this turned out.  As you can see I mutated the chevrons a touch to make them more interesting then I connected the gap with a black striper brush.  I hope you like it and stay tuned for more awesome Halloween nail art as the month progresses! Thanks for reading and see you next post...

Trigger Happy: Nostalgic Lacquer + Essie's Yogaga

Hey polished prisoners,

I decided to do another trigger mani.  They are super easy and super cute IMO so what's not to love?  I picked up Essie's Yogaga last week which is a very neutral taupe/beige creme ONE COATER.  I wanted to pair it with something bright and simple that would still give Yogaga the limelight.  Enter Nostalgic Lacquer's As If!  As If is a one of those endless streams of white/black glitter + something elese combo's that almost every indie brand has made. When I write that I don't mean it as a bad thing since I own a lot of these combos and I love them all.  In the case of As If it's white and black bar glitter with medium white and black hexes and small hot pink hexes with tiny white glitter in a clear base. I used this color combo to create not only the trigger accents but the water marble color palette as well and here's how it translated...

Triggers: Essie Yogaga + Nostalgic Lacquer As If!
Middle-Pinkie Fingers: base of Yogaga + water marble using OPI Alpine Snow and Elephantastic Pink, Essie Yogaga, and Wet N' Wild Black Creme

The water marbles for the last three digits that mirrored the combination of As If over Yogaga were tricky.  Here are a few things I learned from my second attempt at marbling:
1. If you go too deep into the water you ruin the pattern
2. Not taping off your nails is a BAD idea.
3. Creating an attractive pattern is easier said than done
4. Patience is a virtue which needs to be exercised heavily in order to create a good water marble.

As you can see from that little list the process of creating my marbles here was not easy. I made a lot of mistakes and had a lot of do-overs.  I'm still not satisfied with the crispness of my patterns, but I'm slowly improving.  More tips are always appreciated!

So what do you ladies think? Pretty and looking oddly simple too right? That's why I love nail art there is always something new to learn or technique to improve on.  If you want to check out As If! or any other Nostalgic Lacquers you can find them here on Bigcartel or Overallbeauty.  Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you next post!  Toodles...

CrowsToes, Fanservice Nails, Lights & A Gun - What?!?

Happy Saturday lacquer ladies,

I hope you aren't sizzling like sausages on this 105 weather day like I am today, but at least it's a good day for multi-tasking in the AC with of course you guessed it - polish!  I recently discovered the delectable phenomenon of trigger finger mani's on Nailed IT's blog and knew that I had to recreate a similar look.  Of course I wanted to do leopard, but I've had a lot of feline inspired nail art up lately. But what could be as delicious as a spotted compatriot of the night? Perhaps a finely feathered friend smothered in a decadent jelly sandwich?  I also wanted something that was dark versus bright which led me to one Ianto Jones of Fanservice Nails and the following result.

One hot pistol?
I want to say a few things quickly because there's a lot going on here.  First, I've already raved about Essie's Poppy Razzi collection.  It's sickening - nuff said.

The polishes were calling (left to right): Fanservice Nails Ianto Jones, Essie's Lights, CrowsToes Thing.

Second, Fan Service Nails.  Holy crap ladies - I have struck indie paydirt on this company!  When I first ordered one my polishes arrived damaged in transit - boo :(  I sent along an email and the situation was rectified at lightening speed.  This is my first time taking one of my FSN polishes for a cruise and I am so impressed! Ianto Jones is a glossy finish ONE COATER deep grey polish loaded with holographic microglitter.  I just don't have words ladies - this polish is just so good I am in awe!

Look at the holographic yumminess in Ianto Jones.  This polish is a rockstar especially when seen in direct sunlight!

Third, CrowsToes.  Please y'all know this biatch is fierce!  I don't even have to say a word.  Lauri is so talented every polish I have by her is gold and I have a lot (missing three to complete the collection).  She is being stocked by both Kim at Overall Beauty and Leah Ann at Llarowe but she also has her own store over on BigCartel.  Thing, is without a trace of irony, one of the prettiest things I've ever seen and a gorgeous glistening glitterbomb to boot.

This is indirect sunlight.  You can still see all of the holographic shimmer in Ianto but Thing also really pops into play even in the shade.
Have you recovered from my polish gush yet? I have no self control, but in summation - yay for trigger accent mani's, jelly neons, and indie wonders! There are a lot of indie companies rocking my socks off right now, and I'm pretty pleased these days to have picked up some fine gems. And finally, I'm happy I get to share all my polish passion with you without feeling like a freak.  Albeit, I readily admit my flag is always raised lol! Thanks for reading and see you next post!
